The Cantrell Grocery Mosaic was inspired by an old photograph of the grocery store that once inhabited the building. The B&W photo above shows the shopkeeper and her dog. The photo template for the mosaic (above right) was digitally altered. The man leaning against the post comes from another old photograph, one of several provided by the current owner of the building.
The mosaic is full of iridescent glass tile, which can appear a solid color or like a rainbow, depending on how the light hits. Other materials include vitreous and metallic glass, colored mirror, and ceramic objects and tile.
